Samsung has announced the next generation of the company’s second foldable smartphone – the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 – which is the successor to the Galaxy Z Flip 5G and features several improvements such as the new IPX8 rating for water resistance and a bigger outer display.
Display
The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 features a massive 6.7-inches primary full-HD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X Infinity Flex Display, which runs at 120Hz adaptive refresh rate. It bears mentioning that the size of the primary display is similar to last year’s model, though it comes with a better pixel count (425ppi).
Furthermore, the smartphone features a larger cover screen at 1.9-inches that has a resolution of 260×512 with a 302ppi pixel density compared to the previous model which was equipped with a 1.1-inch display with almost half the resolution at 112×300 but the same pixel density at 303ppi.
Internals and Storage
The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 is powered by a Qualcomm 888 just like the Galaxy Z Fold 3. The SoC is paired with 8GB of RAM and up to 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage for smooth operation of the Android 11 OS with the company’s own One UI. The smartphone also includes connectivity options such as 5G, 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth v5.2, GPS/ A-GPS, NFC, and a USB Type-C port. Other sensors on board include an accelerometer, ambient light sensor, geomagnetic, gyrometer, hall sensor, and a proximity sensor.
Camera Setup
Galaxy Z Flip 2 features a dual rear camera setup that carries a 12-megapixel primary shooter with an f/1.8 wide-angle lens and OIS, along with a 12-megapixel ultra-wide camera. The smartphone also comes with a 10-megapixel selfie camera on the top of its folding display, with a f/2.4 lens.
Battery and Charging
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 is equipped with a 3,300mAh dual cell battery with support of 15W wired charging. The smartphone also supports wireless charging and reverse wireless charging. The battery is small considering the massive screen on the smartphone.
Build
The smartphone is slightly slimmer compared to the previous model, with measurement of 72.2×86.4×17.1mm when folded and 72.2×166.0x6.9mm when unfolded. Furthermore, the phone weighs at 183 grams, which is identical to the predecessor.
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 Price
The starting price of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 is $999 and the smartphone will be available for sale starting 27 August 2021 in several color options, including pink, blue, grey, black, and more. It will also be the company’s first foldable smartphone under the $1000 mark.
