Counterpoint Research has released the list of the top 10 best-selling smartphones in 2023 with Apple enjoying a triumphant moment for the first time in history as it claims the top seven spots of the global smartphone sales chart. The Counterpoint Research report shows that although Apple holds an unprecedented position in the market, Samsung also takes the remaining spots in the top ten, making the smartphone industry competitive.

The iPhone 14 was the superstar for the year, even though it had a few similar features as its predecessor, selling well in key markets like US and China. iPhone Pro versions of the product attracted more attention from the customers. Moreover, the late release of the iPhone 15 series created the demand for the product, resulting in the top of the sales charts with high customer excitement for Apple’s latest products.
Although Apple demonstrated a steady sales performance, the market switched towards the higher-end models that contributed to the highest share of smartphone sales in history. The expansion into emerging markets such as India and the Middle East added to the growth, as India crossed the 10 million iPhone sales mark for the first time.
The Samsung Galaxy A series with the Galaxy A14 5G in the top ten emphasized the need to provide value to the different global markets. Towards 2024, with the emergence of Chinese brands among the top ten and simpler product lines, the market is likely to change.
