Meta-owned WhatsApp has announced three new privacy features for the encrypted messaging platform that will give users more control over their messages. The announcement was made by Meta Founder and CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, these features are being rolled out to users on all platforms of the messaging platform, including Android, iOS, and Desktop.
According to the announcement, WhatsApp users will soon be able to hide their online status from specific contacts, leave groups without notifying other members, and block screenshots of certain messages to keep their conversations with others private.
Hide Online Status
WhatsApp will introduce the ability for users to hide their online status from specific contacts and the feature will start rolling out to all users this month. However, you will be unable to see your contacts online status as well if you opt out of sharing your own.
Screenshot Blocking
Meta-owned messenger introduced the ability to send disappearing photos and videos with its ‘View Once Feature’ to provide better privacy. However, the ability to take screenshots defeated the whole purpose and WhatsApp has finally fixed the problem by introducing a feature that would allow users to block screenshots of ‘View Once’ messages.
Leave Groups Silently
WhatsApp is making it possible to exit a group privately without making it a big deal to everyone. Now, instead of notifying the full group when you are leaving, only the admins will be notified. According to the details, the feature will is being rolled out to all users this month.
