Coronavirus: US announces $1m fund for Pakistan

The United States is providing $1 million to Pakistan to help fight this coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic sweeping the country.

US provides $1 million aid to Pakistan amid coronavirus outbreak.

The news was confirmed by US Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs Alice Wells who tweeted that the United States shall be providing $1 million to Pakistan saying in the tweet:

The U.S.-Pakistan government partnership is helping fight COVID19. The U.S. government is responding to COVID-19 in Pakistan with initial $1 million in @USAID_Pakistan funding to bolster monitoring & rapid response.

Alice Wells made a follow up tweet where she wrote:

U.S. and Pakistan are longstanding partners in tackling global health challenges. There are 100+ recent Pakistani graduates of @CDCgov‘s epidemiology lab training on the ground investigating COVID19 cases in Gilgit-Baltistan & Punjab right now.

The coronavirus outbreak in Pakistan has so far infected more than 460 people and taken lives of 3 people and the number keeps rising on a daily basis.

The government is taking action such as banning public gatherings and closing down eating establishments to try and limit people sitting down together and staying at home.
