Dubai Bans E-Scooters on Tram and Metro

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) stated on Thursday that people can’t bring e-scooters onto the Metro and Tram anymore.

This rule comes into effect today, Friday, March 1, 2024.

Earlier on Thursday, Dubai Police introduced a robot to catch people breaking rules while using bikes and electric scooters. This robot, which watches for rule-breaking, will start being tested from March.

There have been more complaints about e-scooter riders lately. Last year, many residents and drivers complained about e-scooters being parked anywhere, blocking sidewalks and taking up parking spots in popular residential areas.

E-scooters have become very popular in Dubai for getting around in the past few years, with over 63,500 e-scooter permits issued since April 2022.

Last month, there was a delay in services at the metro station for almost an hour because smoke was seen coming from an electric scooter.
