According to the press release issued by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), the step to place TikTok ban in Pakistan was taken after the regulator received several complaints from different segments of society regarding immoral and indecent content being shared on the social media app.

PTA also issued a final notice to TikTok and gave the management of the online application ample time to develop an effective moderation mechanism to filter out the ‘immoral and indecent content’.

Since the application failed to comply with the instructions, PTA has issued instructions to block and ban TikTok in Pakistan until further notice.

The regulator says that it is willing to review its decision subject to a satisfactory response by TikTok management regarding moderation of unlawful content in Pakistan.
