Legendary comedian Umer Shareef dies at age 66

The renowned Pakistani comedian and actor Umer Shareef has died at the age of 66 on Saturday. The artist was admitted to a hospital in Germany’s Nuremberg on September 29 as his health condition deteriorated during a flight to the United States.

The development comes three days after Umer Shareef was diagnosed with Pneumonia. He was scheduled to resume his journey to the United States for medical treatment today but it was postponed due to his critical health.

Umer Shareef was an actor, comedian, director, producer, and TV personality. He started his career in Karachi as a stage performer at the age of 14 and went on to be regarded as one of the greatest comedians in the sub-continent. Some of his extremely popular comedy stage plays were 1989’s Bakra Qistoon Pe and Buddha Ghar Pe Ha.

n October 2009, Umer Sharif started hosting late-night talk show, The Shareef Show on private television channel and interviewed many actors, entertainers, musicians, and politicians.

The legendary actor received National Awards for Best Director and Best Actor in 1992 for Mr420. He also bagged ten Nigar Awards, three Graduate Awards, and he was honored with Tamgha-e-Imtiaz.
