Apple has patented a dual foldable device in the United States. The patent relates to an iPad-like and Notebook-like future product with a foldable display. The patent suggests that Apple is looking at a dual-screen approach that is similar to the Microsoft Surface Duo, which is also equipped with two displays.
According to the reports, it will likely be two separate devices put together within a bendable case with its own internal hinge system. However, the devices will sit side by side in the unfolded position creating one large panel or potentially allowing for a laptop-style experience with one screen propped up.
The speakers in the respective devices may be used to play different channels of audio track, while resources may also be shared, including the cameras, and sensors. Furthermore, the displays may work independently or the image may be extended across both displays while using the device in the joint operating mode.
The device pairing is said to use a combination of sensors and other details to detect when an edge of the first device is adjacent to an edge of the second device to determine transition from independent operating mode in which each of them operates separately to the joint operating mode.
The newly patented Apple Foldable Device may function as a notebook-like device with a virtual keyboard or it maybe a small handheld smartphone with two displays. There is no confirmation as to what the company has planned for this upcoming device and we will have to wait for an official word.
It bears mentioning that Apple is also reportedly working on an iPhone with a folding screen similar to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold and the company has ordered a bunch of foldable displays from Samsung as well.
