According to the details, the epicenter of the earthquake was the town of Cianjur, which is about 75 km (45 miles) southeast of Jakarta, Indonesia’s capital.

Rescue teams are hard at work trying to reach survivors trapped under the rubble as more than 2200 homes were damaged or destroyed by the quake.

Meanwhile, West Java Governor put the number of displaced people at 13,000.

Furthermore, the earthquake caused electricity outages in the area and disrupted communication efforts, Herman Suherman, a government official from Cianjur, confirmed.

He added that rescue teams were having difficulty evacuating some people in the area of Cugenang because of a landslide blocking their access.

It is pertinent to mention in less than 2 hours of the earthquake, 25 aftershocks had been recorded with weather and geophysics agency (BMKG) adding that there were concerns about the potential for more landslides in the event of heavy rain.
