Alarming Rise in Dengue Cases in Punjab

Punjab’s health authorities have reported an alarming rise in dengue cases across the province, especially in Lahore and Rawalpindi. According to media reports, 70 new cases have been reported in the last 24 hours in Punjab.

With the addition of new dengue cases, the yearly total has soared to 1,415 with over 500 cases surfacing from Lahore alone and 36 cases in the last 24 hours. Meanwhile, 260 dengue cases have been reported this year in Rawalpindi, with 17 being reported in the last 24 hours.

Several other cities are also reporting new cases of the mosquito-borne disease with Multan’s tally rising to 164. Meanwhile, Faisalabad also reported 5 new cases in the last 24 hours with the total number hitting 109.

Every year, Pakistan witnesses a surge in dengue cases after monsoon season and several people die from the disease as it can be fatal if not treated and there is no vaccine yet.

Some symptoms of dengue include fever, body pain in the initial stages, and severe form that can cause hemorrhaging.
