UAEEI: New App Launched to Help UAE Residents Reduce Carbon Emissions

The UAE Environmental Identity (UAEEI), a novel app developed by the National Experts Programme (NEP), in collaboration with the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MoCCAE) and e&, aims to engage UAE residents in carbon emission reduction efforts. UAEEI: New App Launched to Help UAE Residents Reduce Carbon Emissions

Launched at COP28 in Expo City Dubai, the UAEEI launch ceremony was attended by Mariam bint Mohammed Almheiri, Minister of Climate Change and the Environment, who is also an NEP Mentor. Almheiri emphasized the app’s significance in the context of climate innovation, viewing it as a tool to measure and subsequently reduce individual environmental impact. As the UAE strives to achieve a 43% reduction in emissions by 2030, the app empowers individuals to offset their carbon footprints actively.

The Environmental Identity App represents a collaborative effort between NEP and government entities, underscoring the commitment to fostering sustainable practices in the UAE. Almheiri expressed gratitude for the National Experts Programme and highlighted the app’s role in creating a platform for climate innovators to transition from laboratory work to real-world applications.

Sponsored by the Department of Energy – Abu Dhabi, EAD, and Mubadala, the UAEEI is the result of Abdulla Al Remeithi’s Capstone Project in NEP 1.0. The initiative received funding from Mubadala, NEP’s legacy partner, facilitating the launch of this innovative national project. Al Remeithi described the UAEEI as a revolutionary initiative designed to position the UAE as a global role model in the fight against climate change. The project aspires to make a positive impact by reducing the national environmental footprint, contributing to a greener and more sustainable future. The UAEEI aligns with broader environmental efforts in the pipeline, emphasizing its transformative potential for the nation.
