Abu Dhabi and Dubai Crack Down on Lane Violations with Hefty Fines

Motorists in Abu Dhabi and Dubai are facing increased scrutiny and hefty fines as both emirates intensify efforts to curb lane violations. In Abu Dhabi, a Dh400 fine awaits those caught driving in mandatory lanes demarcated by a solid white line. These lanes prohibit any lane changes, even when approaching intersections or merging onto/off roads. The same fine applies to drivers using bus lanes, clearly designated with “Bus Only” or “Only Bus, Taxi” signs. Meanwhile, in Dubai, the penalty for straying into a bus lane is steeper at Dh600, applicable not just to buses and taxis but also to police cars, civil defense vehicles, and ambulances.

This crackdown on lane violations aligns with broader initiatives to enhance traffic safety in both emirates. Abu Dhabi Police emphasize the importance of lane discipline in preventing accidents and maintaining smooth traffic flow. Authorities employ radars to monitor compliance with bus lane regulations and other restricted areas, underscoring the need for drivers to adhere to traffic rules.

To avoid lane violations in Abu Dhabi and Dubai, drivers are advised to:

  1. Pay attention to lane markings on the road.
  2. Recognize various lane types, including mandatory and bus lanes.
  3. Change lanes only when safe to do so.
  4. Use turn signals when changing lanes.
  5. Adhere to speed limits.

Additional rules and fines include:

  1. Overtaking from the left lane incurs a Dh400 fine in Abu Dhabi.
  2. Stopping in a yellow box junction results in a Dh300 fine in Dubai.
  3. Using a mobile phone while driving carries a Dh200 fine in both emirates.

Compliance with these regulations is crucial to fostering safer roads for everyone in Abu Dhabi and Dubai.
