The subscriptions to Amazon Prime Video in the US have experienced some drastic changes, such as the introduction of ads and the elimination of the Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos support from the ad-tier, which is going to have a major impact to viewer’s experience on the platform.
This was noticed by German tech firm 4K Filme, which reported that ad-tier users only had options for HDR10+ and Dolby Digital 5.1 features. In order to get an ad-free experience and Dolby features, users are being asked to spend an additional $2.99 per month.
Despite all of these changes, the reason behind the removal to these features is not yet known. Amazon reportedly disclosed to Forbes that the move to remove Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos from Prime Video’s ad-free option was intentional and not a technical problem.
Meanwhile, the real reason behind this action has not been disclosed. The adjustments made only affect Amazon Prime subscriptions in the US, whereas the rest of the world is not affected yet. Although rumors are rampant as to the reasons behind these modifications, Amazon’s motive still remains hidden in the mist.
