9th, 11th students being promoted with 3pc increase in grades, no exams

ISLAMABAD: The Federal Education Minister Shafqat Mehmood has announced while addressing a press conference that ninth and 11th grade students being promoted will be getting a thre percent increase in their grades.

This decision was made after review of data that showed students performed better in the 10th and 12th grade (matric and intermediate) than in the ninth and 11th grade.

Minister Shafqat Mehmood said in the press conference:

We went back and saw all the data, and we saw that 10th and 12th grades results are better than ninth and 11th grade results. Therefore, the students will be given a three per cent increase when being promoted.

However, he did mention that students who wish to take examinations will be able to do so and those exams will be held later this year depending on the coronavirus situation in the country.

The Federal Education Minister also said that examinations for students of grades ninth to 12th have been cancelled and this has been decided in a meeting with all Education Ministers that took place today.

In related news, Sindh Education Minister Saeed Ghani has also announced the same sayingthat matric and intermediate students are going to be promoted without taking any examinations.

Earlier the education minister said that promoting these students will have some complications because the law doesn’t allow students to be promoted without sitting in the examination. These laws would have to be amended and they formed a committee to work on a solution.

Minister Saeed Ghani told media in the press conference today:

We will introduce an amendment to existing laws to promote students to the next grade,

We will collect students’ data so that children can be promoted and do not face difficulties in securing college admissions.
