Govt renames Kashmir Highway as Srinagar Highway in Islamabad

ISLAMABAD: The Government of Pakistan has decided to rename ‘Kashmir Highway’ to ‘Srinagar Highway’ in the capital territory Islamabad to express solidarity with the people of Occupied Kashmir ahead of Youm-e-Istehsal.

The Kashmir Highway which stretches from New Islamabad Airport till Occupied Kashmir will be officially renamed as Srinagar Highway on August 5, 2020.

The renaming deciision was taken on the first anniversary of Indian Government scrapping special status of the Occupied Kashmir valley.

Earlier, Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi had announced to observe ‘Youm-e-Istehsal-e-Kashmir’ on August 5 (Wednesday)

All the direction boards on Faizabad, Golra Chowk, Dhokari Chowk, Islamabad Expressway have been changed with a new name ‘Srinagar Highway’.

The Government of Pakistan will officially inaugurate Srinagar Highway on 5 August 2020.

Earlier, The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) has released a song as tribute to brave people of Kashmir titled Ja Chor Day Meri Waadi which translates to Leave My Valley Alone.
