Shahid Khaqan Abbasi barred from contesting polls from NA-57

ISLAMABAD: In a separate development, the election tribunal on Wednesday barred former prime minister and Pakistan Muslim League (N) Shahid Khaqan Abbasi to contest poll from National Assembly seat number 57.

The appellant tribunal also rejected also rejected nomination papers of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders Fawad Chaudhry , Amir Kiyani and Sardar Ghulam Abbas for NA-42, NA-25.

The appellate tribunal was headed by Justice Ibadul Rehman Lodhi of the Lahore High Court (LHC)

The decision came on appeals filed by the candidates’ opponents against the returning officers (ROs) decision to accept the nomination papers.

Pertinent to mention, today is the last day for the election tribunal to conclude proceedings over appeals filed by candidates, and opponents respectively on the verdict of returning officers.
