Older Samsung Flagships to Get Galaxy AI

Samsung’s Galaxy S24 series has introduced AI-powered features for an enhanced user experience, initially exclusive to the new phones. However, in an interview with TechRadar, Patrick Chomet, Samsung’s Head of Customer Experience, revealed that select 2023 flagship devices will also receive these new Galaxy AI features. The devices include the Galaxy S23, S23 FE, Z Fold 5, Z Flip 5, and Tab S9. The update, scheduled for the first half of 2024 via One UI 6.1, brings these AI enhancements to older flagships.

Surprisingly, 2022 devices, such as the Galaxy S22 series, are excluded from this update, and Samsung has not provided a clear explanation for this decision. Chomet mentioned they are “limiting” the initial rollout to last-gen devices “for now,” leaving Galaxy S22 owners uncertain about experiencing the full potential of their devices.

Among the Galaxy AI features coming to more devices are Circle to Search, allowing users to draw a circle around an object or text to learn more instantly, Live Translation for real-time spoken and written translation, Chat Assistant for automatic message translation, Note Assistant for summarizing and organizing notes, and Voice Recording Assistant for turning voice recordings into text with speaker identification, transcripts, translation, and summarization of key points. The expansion of these features beyond the latest models enhances the functionality of older Samsung flagship devices.
