The National Highway and Motorway Police (NHMP) has banned the entry of all vehicles without M-Tag on M-2 Motorway (Lahore to Islamabad) from 7 December 2021 on the directives of the Lahore High Court (LHC).
The development came after Justice Shahid Karim of the Lahore High Court (LHC) issued a detailed judgement on petitions regarding controlling smog and pollution.
Furthermore, the ruling also applies to other motorways converging on the M-2 Ravi Toll Plaza. Moreover, the judgement cited the Punjab Disaster Management Authority, stating that traffic congestion at the Toll Plaza was a big concern as it led to worsening air pollution from vehicles.
Therefore, no vehicles will be allowed entry on the M-2 Motorway (Lahore to Islamabad) without an M-Tag from 7 December 2021.

The M-Tag is a prepaid Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) sticker installed at the top of the windshield of a vehicle and works in conjunction with the scanners placed at the Motorway’s Toll Plaza. The scanners read the M-Tag chips on the vehicle as they pass through and applicable tax is deducted automatically.
