NCOC Announces Decision on Schools Closure

The National Command and Operations (NCOC) has announced its final decision regarding the closure of schools in the country in order to contain the spread of the coronavirus, especially the Omicron variant.

During its meeting on Wednesday, the NCOC decided that all public and private schools will hold classes in a staggered approach (50% attendance) for children under 12 years of age, while classes will be conducted normally for fully-vaccinated students over the age of 12 years.

In cities and district which have a COVID-19 positivity ratio of up to 10%, schools will continue operating normally, but with strict implementation of the COVID-19 protocols. The NCOC clarified in its decision that schools are not being closed at the moment but the federating units in consultation with health authorities will set a number of cases or infection rate as the benchmark for closure of educational institutes.

Furthermore, the NCOC said that at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine will be mandatory for students above the age of 12 years from February 1 and no exemption other than medical reasons will be entertained in this regard. These decisions were taken by the National Command and Operations Center (NCOC) in the meeting held today in Islamabad.
