Joyland Ban Leaves Everyone Divided on Twitter

The decision of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MoIB) to ban the upcoming movie, Joyland, in Pakistan has left everyone divided on Twitter with some supporting the move by trending the hashtag #BanJoyland, while others oppose MoIB’s decision and demand to release through hashtag #ReleaseJoyland.

According to the details, Jamaat-e-Islami Senator Mushtaq Ahmed Tweeted a letter by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, announcing the ban on Joyland as it labelled the previously certified film “uncertified on Saturday after receiving several complaints over highly objectionable material shown in the film.

“Written complaints were received that the film contains highly objectionable material which do not conform with the social values and moral standards of our society and is clearly repugnant to the norms of “decency and morality” as laid down in Section 9 of the Motion Picture Ordinance, 1979.” said the notification.

Therefore, the Government has decided to ban the LGBTQ film, Joyland, by declaring it uncertified for whole of Pakistan in the cinemas which fall under the jurisdiction of the CBFC with immediate effect. It means that the film will not be releasing on November 18, which was its scheduled release date or anytime soon.

Joyland cast includes the popular names like Sania Saeed, Sarwat Gilani, Salman Peerzada, Rasti Farooq, and Ali Khan in the leading role.

The announcement has left people divided over the decision as many have come out in support of the move, while others are opposing the decision on social media and demanding for the release of Joyland in Pakistan. As a result, #BanJoyland, and #ReleaseJoyland are trending on social media platform, Twitter.
