Dubai Traffic Plan for New Year Celebrations: Major Roads to Remain Closed

Dubai Police has announced a traffic plan for New Year celebrations as major roads will be closed at beginning at 4 pm on December 31 on account on New Year’s celebrations, as shared by Abdul Rehman Obaid Juma Al Falasi, a representative from the traffic department.

For those planning to partake in New Year celebrations in the vibrant Downtown area and other popular locations, Al Falasi recommends an early start and the use of public transport to navigate the anticipated traffic.

Highlighting the schedule, Al Falasi outlined the following timings:

  • Mohammed Bin Rashid Boulevard will commence closure at 4 pm.
  • The upper level of the Financial Road is set to close at 8 pm, while the lower level initiates closure at 4 pm.
  • Al Asayel Road is slated for closure at 4 pm.
  • Sheikh Zayed Road to close at 9 pm.

With these closures, traffic diversions will be directed onto Sheikh Zayed Road, ensuring a systematic management of the anticipated influx. So, if you’re planning to revel in the festivities, plan ahead and consider alternative modes of transportation to make the most of the celebration without the hassle of road closures.

Meanwhile, the iconic Sheikh Zayed Road, a major road of the city, is slated for closure at 9 pm, marking a significant step in ensuring the smooth execution of festivities.

The traffic plan extends across 32 locations outlined in the event committee’s comprehensive security and action plan. From the picturesque landscapes of Hatta to the towering landmarks of Burj Khalifa and Burj Al Arab, as well as the vibrant Festival City and more, each area has been strategically marked for a memorable New Year’s celebration.

Anticipating the diverse needs of the revelers, Abdul Rehman Obaid Juma Al Falasi shared insights into the preparations. This year, a thoughtful addition comes in the form of 30 supporting tents scattered across these areas. These tents are equipped to provide essential support and resources, ranging from food supplies and water to restroom facilities and a dedicated lost-and-found service.

The groundwork for this spectacular event commenced three months ago with the collaborative efforts of the Event Preparation Committee. Numerous meetings involving key stakeholders such as the Roads and Transport Authority, Civil Defence, and the Dubai Corporation for Ambulance have been instrumental in shaping the comprehensive New Year’s Eve plan. A total of 55 internal and external partners have united on the committee, underscoring the collective commitment to ensuring a seamless and joyous celebration for residents and visitors alike.
