A massive 7.4 magnitude earthquake struck off the southern coasts of Chile and Argentina on Friday, May 2, 2025, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS).
The epicenter was located approximately 219 kilometers south of Ushuaia, Argentina, beneath the ocean.
In response to the seismic event, Chilean authorities issued a tsunami alert and ordered evacuations along the coastal areas of the Magallanes region and the Chilean Antarctic territory. Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely and have advised residents to stay informed through official channels.
