ISLAMABAD: Islamabad Capital Territory Administration (ICTA) to ban Polythene bags replacing with reusable bags in Islamabad from 14th August.
Polythene bags will be banned in Islamabad from 14th August. You all are requested to please arrange bio-degradable non-plastic bags for daily use so as to avoid any inconvenience.
Deputy Commissioner Islamabad, Muhammad Hamza Shafqaat shared on Social media saying “Let’s join hands This 14th August will be our freedom from plastic bags”.
Let’s celebrate this Independence Day [14th August] by replacing plastic bags with reusable cotton and Jute.
A massive awareness campaign on social, electronic and print media would be launched along with outdoor campaigns at metro stations, parks and other public places.
The Ministry of Climate change devises 3 phase strategy to get rid of plastic bags from The Capital city, Islamabad.
“We have suggested cotton bags, jute bags and any other bags except polythene bags as alternates in the SRO,” he added. However, in the last phase the implementation of the ban on plastic bags would be imposed from August 7 to 14, he added.
The ministry, he said, had made over 100,000 cotton bags which will be distributed among the masses in Friday and Sunday bazaars to acquaint them with the alternates of plastic bags.
“We will also distribute cotton bags in all ministries so that their staff could take up the message to shun use of plastic bags. The youth, students and civil society would be engaged for the distribution of cotton bags in the public places and bazaars,” the ministry official said. – The Nation
Plastic Bag free Islamabad is an initiative of Clean and Green Islamabad by The Islamabad Capital Territory Administration (ICTA).
Already, Tobacco-Smoke Free Capital initiative has been introduced after which smoking in public places, parks, and offices is strictly prohibited.
