Motorola launched its new smartphone Droid mini, appropriate for every smartphone users, as gigantic handsets may be surprisingly popular and are hardly appropriate.The handset, a smaller variant of the Droid Ultra (and Ultra Maxx), stills packs plenty of punch. Moto calls it “compact without compromise,” and while there’s clearly less screen real estate here than on the larger Droids, it does look like a pretty compelling package.
The Droid Mini sports a 4.3-inch display tucked into a very compact body. The design isn’t as ultra slim as the Ultra, though that’s not as much of an issue given the overall smaller size. The glossy back and smooth, comfortable edges make an appearance here, too, and sadly the fingerprint problem we mentioned in the Ultra hands-on is just as bad. Keep a cloth handy.

Unlike the Droid Ultra and Droid Maxx, or even its predecessor the Droid Razr M, the Mini doesn’t have an AMOLED screen. As such, the display was less impressive; colors weren’t as vivid, and images didn’t appear to have as high as a color contrast.
The Droid Mini comes with the same 10-megapixel rear-facing camera you’ll find in the Droid Ultra and Droid Maxx which is capable 1080p HD recording. Motorola also claims that the camera uses a sensor with pixels that are larger than your typical smartphone, resulting in better low light performance.
Lastly, like the Droid Maxx and Droid Ultra, the Mini comes with Touchless Control, a feature that lets you place calls or ask for directions by talking to your phone instead of tapping the screen. All you have to say is, “OK, Google Now,” followed by a command, such as, “Call Mom.” Essentially the device has at least one ear continually trained on you and is eager to jump into action when you utter a command.
