KARACHI: The Sindh Education Department has summoned a meeting to discuss closure of schools across the province amid the rising number of coronavirus (COVID-19) cases.
The meeting will be attended by representatives of private school association and all stakeholders will provide feedback on the recommendations made by federal education ministry on the matter.

Earlier in the week, the federal government recommended closing primary schools from November 24th and primary classes by December 2nd all the way through January 31st of next year.
The final decision will likely be taken in the meeting of Inter-Provincial Education Ministers’ Conference (IPEMC) scheduled for November 23 after they failed to decide on the matter in their previous meetup.
However, the Sindh education minister Saeed Ghani is against the idea of winter vacations and closing of schools in the province stating that students cannot afford any more wastage of time after the long lockdown implemented during the first wave of coronavirus.
Federal Minister for Planning and Development Asad Umar of the National Command and Operations Centre (NCOC) has recommended early and extended winter vacations by compensating for the loss of education by cutting short the summer holidays next year.
“No sector comes close to the education sector in terms of the number of people attached to it. There are over 50 million students across Pakistan,” the minister told Geo News.
