Indian based musical forum T series has recently premiered Indian rendition of Pakistan’s megahit 90’s record Sayonee, leaving the Pakistanis completely baffled.

Sayonee, Junoon
Bollywood’s Sayonee remake receives backlash from Pakistanis.

Re-vocalized by the renowned neighborhood singer Arijit Singh, the video of Sayonee remake, which was uploaded on T-Series official YouTube channel, has erupted wildfire among the country’s old times music admirers as they couldn’t abide with the damage to their classical melody.

Pakistan’s 90’s pop and folk music holds a topnotch rank among the International musical universe, being one of the few things that the rival country couldn’t outstrip. And although Pakistan’s film industry isn’t as majestic as India’s Bollywood, the Pakistani dramas and songs, with their uniqueness and originality, still stands a step ahead to that of India.

Not only the grannies and grandpas and grownups, but the youth of Pakistan also holds a deep and intense affection for the classical 90’s masterpieces and the traditional songs like Purani Jeans, Jazba-e- Junoon, Sayonee, Jeetaingay, Chief Saab and Mera Mahi to name a few are still cherished even after two decades. Hence, there was no way that India’s recreation of Pakistan’s iconic song would’ve gone unnoticed by the citizens.

Sayonee

On 3rd November, Tuesday Indian musical label T-series uploaded a title track of upcoming Bollywood movie ‘Sayonee’ on their official YouTube channel. It was within a few hours, that the short clip from the song started circulating on social media giants, as the Pakistanis immediately recognized their top class 90s soundtrack.

At first, majority of the social users thought the opponents has stolen the 1997’s original Sayonee. However, it was later revealed that Salman Ahmad, the original creator and founder of critically acclaimed Junoon band has whole heartedly given his song to the neighborhood showbiz.

The song description of Indian version of Sayonee presents ‘special thanks to Samina Ahmad and Adil Asif whereas original song credits to Salman Ahmad and Junoon band.’

It is pertinent to mention that Sayonee remake video has managed to garner 2.2 Million views within 24 hours; however the original soundtrack that was uploaded about 11 years ago houses a total of 19 Million views.

About Sayonee

Sayonee is a Pakistani melody of 1997 and hails from ‘Azaadi’ album of rock band ‘Junoon’, an internationally recognized 90’s of Pakistan. The song has been composed by the lead guitarist and founder of band Salman Ahmed, alongside Sabir Zafar and uses blends of rock guitars and bluesy vocals with traditional Pakistani musical elements like the ‘tabla’ percussion drums, Hindustani raga-inspired melodies styled and blended into Pakistani folk music.

The song was released in April, 1997 and was an immediate hit that welcomed everlasting praises and accolades towards the four membered Junoon crew.  Moreover, Sayonee was the first and only single of the band that smashed multiple viewership records throughout the subcontinent, followed with topping all musical charts in Pakistan, India and Bangladesh. The success of the single led the album being the band’s highest selling album in South Asia and Junoon received a platinum certification for hitting platinum sales for their album.

Furthermore, the folk song also won the nominations for ‘Best International Award’ at ‘channel V Music Awards’ in 1998. Owing to this legendary melody, Junoon won the ‘Best International Group’ title at the ‘Channel V Music Awards’, where they performed along with world-wide icons like Sting, The Prodigy and Def Leppard.

Since then, Sayonee is considered as one of the Best Pakistani melodies ever created.

Twitter floods with reactions

Bollywood rendition of Sayonee has touched the Pakistanis right on nerve. However, as the song was recreated permissibly and not stolen, the furious citizens were left with only one option to express their frenzy, which was to degrade the reprised version and troll the Indians. Hence, Twitter in Pakistan swarmed with hateful responses aimed towards the Sayonee’s latest edition.

HOW THE WHAT THE WHY THE??
