According to the telecom regulator, the decision to partially suspend mobile phone services in Karachi was made on the directions of the Ministry of Interior.

Meanwhile, the Sindh Government is making strict security arrangements to safeguard Muharram processions in the port city.

The Sindh Home Department has already imposed a ban on pillion riding across the province on Muharram 9 and 10, while Section 144 has been imposed by the Government, which prohibits “misuse” of loudspeakers.

Furthermore, the Government has warned against putting up offensive posters, banners, distributing flyers or carrying out walk chalking activities. Additionally, the Home Department has banned watching television and using VCRs in hotels and public places.

Moreover, no one should be on roofs of houses, buildings, or other structures while a procession passes through that area for security purpose.

It is pertinent to mention that Government of Sindh is yet to issue a notification regarding mobile services being suspended across the province, especially Karachi.
