A petition has been filed in the Islamabad High Court (IHC) against the TikTok ban in Pakistan which was implemented by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) on October 9th, 2020.
A citizen named Ashfaq Jatt filed a petition in the Islamabad High Court (IHC) challenging the TikTok ban in Pakistan stating that PTA implemented blocked the Chinese video sharing app without proper legal requirements.
The petition argued that the TikTok was banned in Pakistan by issuing a press release instead of a proper order and there is no room for temporary ban under Section 37 (i) of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act.
Following the hearing, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) issued a notice to the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and the Ministry of Information and Telecommunication asking them to explain their position on the matter at the next hearing which will be held in two weeks.
It is pertinent to mention that a petition was filed against the TikToker named Munib Ahmed in the Sindh High Court (SHC) challenging the TiKTok ban stating that the blocking of the app was unfair.
