Meta-owned Instagram is introducing several changes to give users more control over content that is recommended to them. In a move aimed at improving their algorithm that gives content recommendations, Instagram says it will make it easier for users to teach the service to recognize posts that they were not interest in seeing in various sections of the app.

The company announced in a blog post that it has begun testing the ability to allow users to select multiple posts in the Explore Tab, and to inform the service that they’re not interested in the recommended content, which is going to help the algorithm provide much more personalized posts.

Until now, Instagram users would have to open (or long press) a post and indicate that they’re not interested in the post, which could be a tedious task when the Explore Feed is filled with irrelevant posts. Furthermore, Instagram is also working on allowing users to filter out posts with certain hashtags and Emojis, which is going to prevent them from showing up in their main Feed.
Meta is always working to introduce and improve their social media services, including Facebook and WhatsApp. However, the company has been taking pointers from TikTok to improve their algorithm across their platforms so that users are recommended the content they’re actually interest to see on their Feeds.
