Apple’s anticipated release of new updated iPads, originally expected this month or early April, has been postponed. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reports that the new tablets, including next-generation Air and Pro models, are now slated for a May launch.
Speculation surrounding these iPads has been ongoing, particularly regarding upgrades such as OLED displays and improved chips. Last year marked the first time Apple didn’t introduce any new iPad models, making it the longest gap in the company’s history. The current iPad Pro and Air were last updated in 2022, leaving the Air with an outdated M1 chip.
According to Gurman’s sources, iPad Pro models with OLED displays and two sizes of the iPad Air are expected in May, with suppliers expediting production. Delays in the initial release timeline were attributed to finalizing software and complexities in screen manufacturing.
The iPad Pro with OLED displays, codenamed J717, J718, J720, and J721, promises significant upgrades since 2018, including a faster M3 chip, MagSafe compatibility, and thinner designs. Meanwhile, the sixth-generation iPad Air, available in 10.9 and 12.9-inch sizes, is anticipated to feature the M2 chip.
With these advancements, Apple aims to revitalize its declining iPad sales, targeting users seeking improved performance and updated features.
