Abu Dhabi authorities have declared an exemption from 10% tourism tax/fees on ticket sales until December 31, 2024 for event organizers. The Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) extended this waiver to support the growth of the sector.
Saleh Mohammed Al Geziry, director-general of tourism at DCT Abu Dhabi, highlighted the importance of this move in fostering growth and providing ongoing assistance to event partners. However, organizers must still acquire event licenses through the Abu Dhabi Events Licensing System and adhere to specified regulations.
Moreover, organizers are obligated to report revenues from their events and cooperate with auditors designated by DCT Abu Dhabi to ensure accuracy in declarations. This tourism tax waiver aligns with various recent measures aimed at promoting the expansion of the tourism and events industry in Abu Dhabi.
In addition to the tourism fee exemption, incentives such as reduced tourism and municipality fees for hotels have been introduced. Furthermore, adjustments to the holiday homes policy allow farmhouse owners to obtain licenses for converting their properties into holiday homes. Landlords and residential unit owners can also apply for multiple holiday home licenses for various units.
These initiatives signify Abu Dhabi’s commitment to fostering a thriving tourism and event ecosystem. By providing support and incentives, authorities aim to attract more visitors and enhance the overall experience for tourists and residents alike.
