At least 100 people have been killed with more than 4,000 injured following the Beirut blast on Tuesday that rocked the capital city of Lebanon causing widespread damage for miles.
Rescue teams are still working to dig through the rubble in search of survivors and the death toll is expected to rise further as more bodies are recovered in the process.

Cause of the Beirut Blast / Explosion
The Beirut explosion which which devastated the city on Tuesday was caused by 2,750 tonnes of confiscated ammonium nitrate that was sitting in a warehouse at the Lebanese capital’s industrial port since 2014.
The President of Lebanon called for a cabinet meeting and declared a two week state of emergency following the Beirut blast and the devastation it caused.

Over 200,000 people left homeless
The Governor of Beirut, Marwan Abboud said that over 200,000 people have been left homeless as a result of the explosion that destroyed their homes. Authorities are working to provide these unfortunate people with necessities like food, water and shelter.
Hospitals destroyed
According to sources, at least three hospitals in Beirut with nurses who lost their lives. This has been a major setback for the health care system of the city which was already struggling during the coronavirus pandemic.
The Prime Minister of Lebanon in a speech on television appealed to other countries and friends of the nation for help after the tragic incident that occurred on Tuesday.
The country’s Prime Minister also said that it was unacceptable that a shipment of ammonium nitrate which is believed to be the cause of the explosion was just sitting there at Beirut’s port for the past six years without any safety measures being implemented. Furthermore, he once again said that those responsible for the massive Beirut blast will be held responsible.
