Saudi Arabia to Use Drones to Transport Blood for Hajj Pilgrims

Saudi health authorities are introducing drones to transport blood during the upcoming Hajj pilgrimage, enhancing emergency services at holy sites like Mina valley and Arafat. Following a successful trial last year with Saudi Post (SPL), drones will efficiently carry blood and lab samples, cutting transport time from two and a half hours to just two minutes. This initiative aims to upgrade healthcare for pilgrims, ensuring prompt responses to emergencies during the massive gathering.

Last year, nearly 2 million pilgrims returned to Mecca for Hajj, a major recovery to pre-pandemic levels. Saudi Arabia has released guidelines for the upcoming Hajj season in June, emphasizing early preparations. Unlike previous years, specific places won’t be assigned to countries at holy sites; instead, allocations will be based on finalized contracts, as stated by Saudi Minister of Hajj Tawfiq Al Rabiah.

This adjustment aims to streamline preparations for Hajj, an essential Islamic obligation for financially and physically capable Muslims to perform at least once in their lifetime. By incorporating drones for blood transport, Saudi health authorities are enhancing the safety and efficiency of healthcare services, ensuring pilgrims receive timely assistance during their sacred journey.
