Sinead O’Connor Converts to Islam to Become Shuhada’ Davitt

Irish singer Sinead O’Connor made announcement on Twitter telling her fans

“My best friend Elaine just gave me my 1st Hijab and she got chills all over her body when I put it on”

O’Connor  revealed her best friend in Dublin gave her her first Hijab.


Sinead O’Connor has also revealed she’s taken her new name “Shuhada’ Davitt”  after renouncing Catholicism and converting to Islam. Sinead O’Connor, 51, will now be known as Shuhada’ Davitt -shuhada meaning ‘martyrs’ or ‘witnesses’ in Arabic.

O’Connor, in a message to fans on Twitter said she had ditched Catholic Church for good. who last year changed her legal name to Magda Davitt.

The Irish singer, who was once officially appointed  priest by the Irish Orthodox and Apostolic Church in the late 1990s , made the announcement on Twitter telling fans she was proud to have become a Muslim

 

She has announced in her Tweet:

“This is to announce that I am proud to have become a Muslim,” she wrote.

“This is the natural conclusion of any intelligent theologian’s journey. All scripture study leads to Islam. Which makes all other scriptures redundant.

“I will be given (another) new name. It will be Shuhada’.”

The Nothing Compares 2 U (one of her hit songs) singer is now seen wearing her hijab.

 

Shuhada’ Davitt , last year went to US with the help of Dr. Phil for intensive mental health treatment has shared a video of her singing  the Adhan – the Islamic call to prayer.

“I got some pronunciation wrong because emotions took me from my page… but there’ll be hundreds of others onstage to come,” Shuhada’ Davitt told her social media following.

Shuhada’ Davitt promises she will sing it better after she has practiced the Azan a hundred times.

In the past Shuhada’ Davitt has had a complicated relationship with Catholic Church. To protest child sex abuse she tore up a photo of the Pope  on a live TV show. The Church was also shocked when she was officially appointed by an independent bishop, as the Church does not allow women priests.
