MQM announces countrywide protest over Nine Zero raid

KARACHI: The Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) has announced a peaceful shutter-down strike against the overnight raid of party’s central office by the rangers,

After a brief emergency meeting, the MQM’s Coordination Committee appealed to people to keep their business activities at a standstill and transport off roads today in protest over the rangers raid at Nine Zero.

The party’s main decision-making body said several party leaders including Amir Khan, Abdul Haseeb Dr. Saleem Danish and Arshad Hussain have been arrested, adding many party workers including Ayub Sheikh and Sindh MPA Rehan Zafar have been whisked away.

The Muttahida urged upon Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to take notice of the overnight raid and arrests.

Earlier, MQM’s members of assemblies arrived on the spot but, they were denied access to Nine Zero. Standing at Mukka Chowk, the MQM’s parliamentarians and other leaders complained, “Why are we not allowed to go to Nine Zero?”
