Justice for Rizwana – 14-Year-Old Maid Tortured by Civil Judge’s Wife

According to the details, the wife of the civil judge, Asim Hafeez, allegedly tortured her maid, 14-year-old Rizwana, after accusing her of stealing some gold jewellery, taking law into her own hands instead of taking legal action against the teenager.

The family of the victim has stated that Rizwana was working as a servant (maid) at the civil judge’s house in Islamabad for the past six months before being subjected to torture at the hands of his wife, namely Somia.

Furthermore, the family claimed that despite working for six months, Rizwana wasn’t paid a single salary, which was suppose to be Rs. 10,000 per month, to date.

According to the police, there are at least 15 torture marks on her body, which includes the 14-year-old’s face as well. Moreover, the victim was shifted to the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital for medical assistance.

Meanwhile, the doctors at the DHQ Hospital referred the girl to Lahore Hospital for treatment and the police said that a torture case has been registered against the judge’s wife at the Police Station Humak on behalf of the girl’s father, Manga Khan, under Section 506, which stands for wrongfully confining a person, under the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC).

It bears mentioning that victim’s parents said that they hadn’t met her in the six-seven months she had been working at the civil judge’s house and only came to know about the torture marks on July 23 when they went to meet her.

However, they were regularly in touch with their daughters via phone calls.

The complainant said that some of the injuries from the torture include swelling on lips and eyes, broken teeth and ribs, and strangulation marks around the neck. Moreover, there were some serious wounds on the head, which were infested with maggots.

Civil Judge Denies Allegations

However, the civil judge, Asim Hafeez, has denied all allegations and said that wounds on the girl’s body were the result of eating soil from planters kept in his house. “The girl was working as maid at our house and ate soil from planters a month ago, which damaged her skin.” the judge told Geo News.

He added that the 14-year-old got a diagnosis of a skin condition and treatment was done from a doctor in Gujranwala, but the girl would pick and scratch her wounds when they started healing.

The judge told the girl that she would be dropped off back to her home, but she banged her head into the wall, saying that her mother would beat her so she did not want to go home. This is the only reason they did not go through with it.

He said that he was against any type of physical abuse and torture incidents never took place in front of him. Furthermore, the judge said that Somia, his wife, told him that the girl did not work properly, which is why they ended up dropping her off with her parents in Sargodha.

However, the mother of the 14-year-old started beating her in front of the judge’s wife. The judge also clarified that his wife complained about missing jewellery but did not accuse the child of stealing it.
