Schools to remain closed for classes 1 – 8 till Eid, Says Shafqat Mehmood

ISLAMABAD: The Federal Education Minister Shafqat Mehmood announced that schools for classes 1 through 8 will remain closed till Eid-ul-Fitr in all districts with a high coronavirus positivity ratio.

The decision was taken in a special meeting of all health and education ministers from all the provinces along with Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJ&K).

A special meeting of Health and Education Ministers of all provinces and AJK/GB was held today. The following decisions were taken with complete consensus. 1) Classes 9 to 12 would commence in affected districts in a staggered manner to allow students to prepare for Board exams

However, the federal minister said that schools will reopen in coronavirus affected districts for classes 9 through 12 in a staggered manner so students can prepare for their upcoming board exams.

Speaking about the exams, the federal education minister said that new date sheets will be announced by the board and exams for classes 9 through 12 will not start before the 4th week of May.

The Federal Education Minister Shafqat Mehmood confirmed that admission schedule for universities will be adjusted according to the new exam time table.

2. 9 to 12 exams will take place according to the new date sheets announced by the Boards. This means will not start before 4th week of May. University admissions schedule will be adjusted keeping in view the new exam time table

Shafqat Mehmood also announced that exams for A, AS, O Level and IGCSE will take place according to the datesheet announced by CAIES and there will be no cancellation. However, those students who wish to appear in exams during the October/November session can do so in the same fee already paid.

It was also decided with complete consensus among ministers that A, AS, O level and IGCSE exams will take place as per date sheet announced by CAIES. There will be no delay or cancellation. Those students wishing to take exams in Oct/Nov can do so in the same fee already paid

The federal education minister also confirmed that Cambridge will not give teacher assessed grades this year, therefore those students not taking exams will take them in October/November session.

Meeting was also informed that Cambridge has decided not to give teacher assessed grades this year therefore those not taking exams will take them in the next cycle Oct/Nov. Cambridge also assured that all SOPs will be strictly followed

Shafqat Mehmood also said that universities in affected districts will continue online classes, however, in those districts where coronavirus positivity ratio is less than 8%, the students will be attending physical classes.

However, the schools will remain closed for coronavirus affected districts for classes 1 through 8 until Eid-ul-Fitr. Further details will be announced by the provinces and Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJ&K).
