Li Nan, the former Meizu executive, has dropped hints that Huawei is planning to launch a Vision VR headset, which is expected to compete with Apple’s Vision Pro. Nan’s Weibo post states that Huawei is working on a VR headset with their own chipset, providing “no delay” in spatial rendering.
The device is anticipated to feature a Sony 4K micro-OLED display such as Apple’s Vision Pro, with production set to start within the next 6 months. Huawei’s Vision VR headset is expected to weigh around 350 grams, which is significantly lighter than Apple’s 600-gram model.
Although Huawei’s Vision VR headset could prove to be an attractive substitute for Apple’s offering, the reported price point is around 15,000 Yuan (~$2,100), making it a competitive but pricey option. Nevertheless, the projected price gives rise to the belief that it may be cheaper than Apple’s product.
This development by Huawei is a follow-up of its previous projects in Huawei VR, such as the launch of the Vision Glass with a head-mounted display in 2021. These recent developments are in line with Huawei’s past efforts and the company’s registration of the Vison Pro trademark name in 2019. Rumors say that Huawei will also get into the Mixed Reality headset market. Furthermore, Apple might consider the Vision Pro name change in China in view of Huawei’s trademark for the same name in the country.
It is not a matter of a new mixed VR headset in the market, it is a matter of a challenge of panned chinease company innovation that expected to compete surprisingly with U.S. innovative of Apple who almost copycatted Microsoft one.
