POCO becomes an independent brand.

He made the announcement via Twitter saying that POCO has grown into its own identity and that it was time the sub-brand started operating on its own independent from the Xiaomi brand.

Excited to share: #POCO will now be an independent brand!

What started as a sub-brand within Xiaomi, has grown into its own identity. POCO F1 was an incredibly popular phone. We feel the time is right to let POCO operate on its own.

Join me in wishing @IndiaPOCO all the best.

POCO was introduced as a sub-brand of Xiaomi back in 2018 with the launch of their first phone, the POCO F1 that was a huge success all around.

The reason Xiaomi created POCO was to compete against flagship phones by launching high-end smartphones but doing all of that while keeping the price of the phone, pocket friendly.

This is exactly what the company did with the launch of the POCO F1 with a price tag of under $400 and the specifications included Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 (the flagship SoC by Qualcomm at the time) and 6GB RAM.

These specs were almost specifically found in flagship phones by Samsung or Oppo that were more than twice the price.

Jain, however did not reveal any more details about this move and did not mention of even hint about the successor of the POCO F1 which is now long over due and fans are eagerly waiting for it.

Currently there are reports of a phone by the name of POCO X2 that was seen in a listing on the Geekbench site. According to the listing the phone is said to have 8GB of RAM and comes with a Qualcomm processor at 1.8GHz although the exact processor was not mentioned by name.

The details weren’t much but if its anything like the previous model then we can expect a flagship processor in the device. However, at this point there is no official news on the device.
