Kuwait has introduced electronic driving licenses for expatriates, as outlined in Ministerial Resolution No. (410) of 2023. This decision, sanctioned by Sheikh Talal Al Khaled, the First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, mandates a one-year validity for these licenses, with provisions for renewal.
This innovative initiative, directed at the General Traffic Department, streamlines the process by eliminating the requirement for physical copies of licenses. Expatriates can conveniently renew their licenses electronically through the Ministry of Interior’s website or the “Sahel” government app. The activation of the new licenses can be done through the dedicated “Kuwait Mobile ID” section within the app.
For license status verification, residents can use the “Kuwait Mobile ID” app, where a green mark indicates validity and a red mark signals expiration. It’s important to note that this transition to electronic licenses does not apply to domestic and international truck drivers.
Kuwaiti residents traveling abroad are reminded to utilize licenses from their respective countries during their international journeys.
The adoption of digital licenses is geared towards improving efficiency and minimizing paperwork, in line with Kuwait’s objectives for digital transformation.
